WHAT IS ANGEL TREE?

Created in 1979, the Angel Tree program provides new gifts for children and senior citizens in need for the holidays. Participating locations are the Salvation Army Temple Corps on West 14th Street, and the Salvation Army Times Square Corps on West 47th Street.

HOW ARE THE ANGELS SELECTED?

Angels are selected through an application process. Approved families experienced a financial crisis or hardship, participate in free or reduced lunch programs, receive TANF, SNAP, and are at or below the poverty line. Many families live in New York City’s shelter system.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SPONSOR AN ANGEL?

Once you contact us, you will be assigned a Wish List for a child or senior citizen (your choice). If you accept a Wish List you agree to purchase all three items as requested. It’s likely these will be the only gifts these Angels receive for the holidays, so sticking to the list is important.

CAN I BUY THINGS THAT AREN’T ON THE WISH LIST?

Yes, you can absolutely include more if you’ve already fulfilled the original Wish List. Some useful extras are socks, pajamas, blankets, coat, hat, gloves, and batteries (if applicable).

WHAT DO ANGELS TYPICALLY REQUEST?

Many ask for toys, but an equal number request clothing, shoes, and bedding. Most seniors ask for clothing and household items.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO SPONSOR A WISH LIST?

On average, it costs approximately $100 to fulfill a Wish List.

WHAT IF I DON’T LIVE IN NEW YORK?

Thanks to the magic of online shopping, you can ship gifts directly to us. We have sponsors all over the US who contribute to this program.

IF I CAN’T SHOP, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

Yes, we can do all the shopping for you. We accept checks and Venmo in whatever amount you’re comfortable giving. 100% of what you give goes to gifts for the Angels and we are happy to provide receipts. Our Venmo account is Lissa-Hussian.

ARE WE PART OF THE SALVATION ARMY?

No. The Salvation Army provides us with Wish Lists and all gifts are given directly to the Angels. No gifts or monetary donations are ever given to The Salvation Army.

WHO ARE THE 15 BROAD ANGEL TREE ORGANIZERS?

We are friends, family, and friends who are family. We don’t work for The Salvation Army; we volunteer with The Salvation Army exclusively for the holiday Angel Tree Program. We all live/lived at 15 Broad Street (hence our name) and have been passionately supporting this program, and many of the same Angels, for 13 years.
